Exploring Nervous System Dysregulation
In this episode of heartbeat, Dr. Brooke Stuart dives into a discussion on exploring nervous system dysregulation. By addressing dysregulation, we can improve our ability to manage stress, enhance emotional stability, and prevent long-term health complications.
- Nervous System Dysregulatuon: Nervous system dysregulation is an imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems of the autonomic nervous system- making it difficult to regulate our physiological and psychological state.
- Signs Of A Dysregulated Nervous System: Signs of a dysregulated nervous system include but are not limited to: feeling wired and tired, anxious and/ or depressed, emotional instability, chronic health issues like GI distress, chronic pain and fatigue, overanalyzing every choice, trouble sleeping, social withdrawal, over or under eating, procrastination, easily distracted, trouble focusing, fidgeting, startled easily, and irregular body temperature.
- Two Branches: The autonomic nervous system has two branches: sympathetic (fight, flight, freeze, appease) branch and parasympathetic (rest and digest) branch.
- Still Face Experiment: Connection is key to sending signals of safety and accessing states of sustained coherence, and the Still Face Experiment depicts just this.
- Parts Work: You are the parent, and your parts are your children, and you want what is best for them all. In order to care for them you have to take the time to get to know each and every one of them.
