Food & Lifestyle Practices for each Phases of Menstrual Cycle, A Functional Medicine Perspective

See slide for details, and throw any questions in the comments on this Instagram Post! #letgoandgrow

Understanding and aligning with the natural rhythms of your menstrual cycle can be a game-changer! Each phase of the cycle (menstrual, follicular, ovulatory, and luteal) comes with unique hormonal shifts that can be supported through targeted foods and lifestyle practices.

In my practice, I prioritize signals of consistent safety as a through line over specific phase changes so that my patients have a structure they can rely upon as they find their own cadence and rhythm within the flow.

Alongside a core supplement protocol, I typically recommend that people plan three meals a day plus two snacks (any of which they can opt out of if they are not hungry), with each main meal having a protein, fat and carb, focusing in on hitting at least 75g of protein a day and adjusting fats/carbs after stacking based on their own intuition within the guardrails of the foods that serve their overall health and well-being.

For my patients, this often means removing gluten and dairy, and focusing in on a nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory, whole foods oriented diet. From here, we can upgrade treats along the way.

For lifestyle, I take a similar approach. It is important to address movement, play, sleep, relaxation and the spectrum of relationships in a way that we honor structure and flow.
